Time Hollow представляет собой довольно обычную для Японии «интерактивную новеллу»: наш герой Хоро Токио (Итан Кайрос) — обыкновенный семнадцатилетний японский школьник. Однажды утром он просыпается и обнаруживает, что его родители уже двенадцать лет как пропали без вести, — а ведь он только вчера пил с ними чай за ужином. В прошлом Хоро что-то пошло не так, и исправить это «не так» ему поможет зеленая ручка «Hollow Pen», с помощью которой парень может делать дырки во времени и вносить поправки в свое прошлое. Большую часть игры мы проводим, как положено в интерактивной новелле: ходим в школу, общаемся с одноклассницами, слушаем внутренние диалоги героя — словом, «собираем информацию о происшедшем», как это формулирует пресс-релиз. А когда Хоро уже, кажется, понял, что случилось, нужно определить «проблемное» место, разрезать стилусом временную ткань и незначительно подправить прошлое — с тем чтобы это незначительное изменение привело к серьезным последствиям в настоящем.
